Rigid fabric
Having slightly arthritic hands I find the buckle on the collar a bit tricky to adjust to changing from 2 to 3 holes along the collar. Fabric will soften in time, I'm sure, but hard initially. Would soaking it in warm water soften the fabric & make it more manageable?
